Taking readings from a single-tariff electric meter and calculating the payment amount
Induction meters are single-tariff metering devices. Taking readings from devices of this type is carried out using simple mathematical calculations. The algorithm of actions is as follows:
- To record the readings, digital values are entered into the document, which are reflected on the display of the mechanical device. As a rule, induction-type electric meters have 5-7 digits, the last of which, highlighted with a comma or another color, reflect watts and therefore, when taking readings, these values are not taken into account (blue rectangle), therefore, we take into account only the first digit without zeros (red frame).
- The calculation of the number of kilowatts is carried out by subtraction: the meter readings for the previous month are subtracted from the recorded data from the meter. The result of the arithmetic operation will be the number of kilowatts consumed by the consumer for the current month. For example, the readings in January were 00345 (without taking into account the last digits), in February the data changed and became 00420. Therefore, the electricity consumption for the month will be 75 kW (420 - 345 = 75).
- The payment amount is calculated by multiplying the result obtained by the cost of 1 kW of electricity (75 kW x 2.60 (tariff in your region) = 195 rubles).
Error-free recording and transmission of information from the electric meter guarantees accurate and correct charging for electricity and the absence of misunderstandings associated with overpayment for electricity.

Payment through State Services
Users registered on the government services portal can pay their electricity bills there.
What should be done:
- Log in to your personal account.
- Follow the link “ Payment for housing and communal services ”.
- In the field that opens, enter the TIN of the transfer recipient, as well as the personal account number (all necessary information is indicated in the receipt for payment of electricity).
- Select the account from which you want to withdraw money.
Payments made on the site are automatically saved in the drafts section. Their use for subsequent payments allows you to save time on entering identical data (TIN, personal account number, etc.)
The procedure for taking readings from a multi-tariff meter and calculating the payment amount
Electronic models of electricity meters, unlike inductive devices, are equipped with electronic dials that display not only the consumed kilowatts, but also the date, operating time of the meter and tariffs by zone, since these devices are multi-tariff.
Depending on the model, the electric meter can be:
- Single tariff. This type of metering device counts the electricity used regardless of the time of day according to a single tariff (T1);
- Two-tariff. The calculation of consumed electrical energy is carried out at different tariffs, since in this case the day is divided into two time zones: (T1) day - from 7-00 to 23-00 and (T2) night - from 23-00 to 7-00. The cost of energy used at night is significantly lower.
- Three-tariff. In addition to the day (T1) and night zones (T2), the electricity meter takes into account energy during daytime peak loads (T3), which are read from 10:00 to 14:00.
Data is read from a multi-tariff device as follows:
- To correctly record readings from an electronic device, it is necessary to write off information separately for each time zone. To do this, click on the “Enter” button on the display panel.
- After pressing, the display initially displays the T1 value data, which is written off to the electricity metering log or payment receipts.
- After subsequent presses, the following readings (T2 and T3) are alternately displayed on the display, which are also reflected in the accounting documents, while the numerical data is recorded only in kilowatts, without taking into account the numbers after the decimal point.
- After the output of indicators is completed, the checksum of all three modes (day, night and peak period) is reflected on the multi-tariff meter display.
The calculation of payment for the used electricity of a two-tariff meter is carried out according to the following scheme:
Meter readings for the reporting period: T1 – 000226, T2 – 000355.
Indicators of the previous month: T1 – 000120, T2 – 000280.
We recommend: Features of using a check valve for a water meter
Tariff price T1 – 5.50 rubles; T2 –2.45 rub.
Calculation: T1 = 226 – 120 x 5.50 = 583 rub.
T2 = 355 – 280 x 2.00 = 150 rub.
To determine the total fee, all data is summed up: 583 + 150 = 733 rubles.
The electricity payment of a three-tariff meter is calculated in a similar way, taking into account the readings of three zones:
Current readings: T1 – 000345, T2 – 000255, T3 – 000530.
Data for the past month: T1 – 000315, T2 – 000215, T3 – 000470.
Tariff rates: T1 – 5.50 rubles; T2 – 2.45 rubles; T3 – 4.40 rub.
Calculation: T1 = 345 – 315 = 30 x 5.50 = 165 rub.
T2 = 255 – 215 = 45 x 2.45 = 98 rub.
T3 = 530 – 470 = 60 x 4.40 = 240 rub.
To determine the total fee, all data is summed up: 165+98+240=503 rubles.
Important! If your meter has more tariffs, then all of them must be taken into account in the calculation.

According to the standard
If an electric meter is not installed, the consumer pays for the supply of resources according to current standards. Standard indicators and tariffs are approved by local authorities, taking into account the costs of production and transmission of electrical energy, as well as the individual characteristics of the region that affect the cost of resources.
If the absence of an individual meter is explained by the impossibility of installing it for technical reasons, the calculation is performed using the following formula:
P = k × N × T, in which
- P – monthly payment amount;
- k – the number of officially registered residents in the specified living space;
- N – consumption standards established in the region;
- T – the value of the tariff that determines the cost of one kilowatt-hour.
If there are no technical reasons why it is impossible to install an electric meter, an increasing coefficient is additionally included in the formula in addition to the indicated multipliers. Its use is explained by the fact that the authorities are trying to interest owners in installing individual metering devices.
The number of residents is determined according to official registration data. But if, during the inspection, representatives of the management company identify additional persons in the specified living space, the payment amount will be calculated taking into account unregistered residents.
We recommend: Unauthorized connection to the power grid
Calculation example
Let's consider an example of calculation for a family from Moscow consisting of 3 people. The two-room apartment is not equipped with an electric stove, and electrical energy is not used to heat the room.
The tariff established for these conditions is 5.47 rubles. for 1 kWh with a consumption rate of 56 kWh per person.
The amount is calculated using the above formula. After substituting the actual values, we get:
P = 3 × 56 × 5.47 = 918.96 rubles,
For a situation where installing a meter is not technically possible. Otherwise, the result must be further multiplied by 1.5. Then the payment will increase to 1378.44 rubles.
Three-phase metering devices: nuances of reading readings
Three-phase devices, if they are used for high powers, are called transformer devices. These are different from the direct-connection electricity meters we are used to. As such, the phase conductors of electrical wires do not come to them. Instead, current transformers are installed on the phase buses, and wires from them go to the meter. How to take readings from such a counter? To do this, we take the data from the device and multiply it by the transformation coefficient. These will be the numbers we need.

If a three-phase electronic device is installed, then the question of how to take readings from the electricity meter (day, night) will no longer arise. Everything is done by analogy with the metering devices described above.
Three-phase electricity meters are quite bulky
How to save?
- The most common and simplest type is self-restraint. Each owner of an apartment or house can decide independently which device to include in the network and which not to include. It also determines the time for which it should be turned on. The restriction reduces the comfort of life, but disciplines the consumer
- Another type of saving is also in self-restraint, but in it the main load is transferred to the night. This may be unacceptable for those people who are used to sleeping at night. But if your meter changes its tariff depending on the time of day, this can reduce your electricity bill.
Both of these types of savings should be based on knowledge of how much electricity a certain electrical appliance consumes. Power consumption is indicated in the instructions or on the case. It is enough to multiply this power by the time of use and we will get the number of kilowatts for a certain time.
Another way to save money is to use equipment that does not draw a lot of electricity. It is enough to install “housekeepers” instead of conventional incandescent lamps and the results will immediately give a positive balance.
Paying for electricity with a bank card
There is no commission for making a payment from a bank card account.
Cards of the national payment system “Mir” are accepted for payment, as well as cards of the international payment systems VISA and MasterCard, issued in Russian rubles by credit institutions located in Russia.
Mandatory details required to make a payment are the personal account number indicated in the payment document and consisting of 10 characters, as well as the period for which the payment is made
In the period from the 15th to the 26th day of the calendar month, when choosing the payment method “Pay according to indications”, the function of transmitting current meter readings, recalculating the balance amount and paying the bill, taking into account the transmitted readings, on one payment page is implemented.
The maximum payment amount cannot exceed RUB 50,000.00
Information about the completed payment is transmitted in real time and is reflected in the “Client’s Personal Account” in the “Account Status” section – “History of payments for electricity” with the sign “Processing”
When funds are credited to the client’s personal account, the payment is assigned the “Credited” attribute. Payment processing time is from 3 to 5 days
Reading readings from electronic meters
Currently, devices with several phase options are used. The display shows data reflecting the amount of resource consumed.
There are the following types of metering devices:
- with one tariff. In this case, division into zones is not used, the citizen pays for consumed electricity at a standard tariff;
- There are 2 tariffs. The device separately records the resource consumed at night and during the day. Payments are calculated at different prices;
- with 3 tariffs. Then the counter, in addition to day and night time, records the peak phase.
The phase division method helps to divide the consumed amount of electricity throughout the day. This method allows you to save light and pay less.
The procedure for taking readings from an electronic device
You will need to perform a certain algorithm of actions.
Including:
- press the “Enter” key located on the meter body;
- look at the display, where the values for different phases are displayed. They are called: T1 - energy consumed during the day, T2 - resources used at night, T3 - peak phase;
- copy the data into a notepad so as not to forget;
- transfer information to the resource supply company.
In a situation where a citizen initially used an old-style device and then installed a new device, he needs to take into account the data in the act of putting the device into operation. The document contains initial readings that must be taken into account when submitting data for the first time.
